Field or Range Shirt

MKT-6
Though Jorge Amselle looks snazzy in his MK Qtr Zip on the range at Gunsite, he just can’t wear the shirt like I can.

You have seven days left to pick up a gift for the hunters or shooters on your list. If you were too lazy to read my suggestions posted last week, and now find yourself in a bind, I suggest you order something that will be much appreciated during the upcoming cools days on the range or in the woods.

I’ve been wearing the Mountain Khaki Rendezvous Quarter Zip all this hunting season and It has turned out to be one of my favorite pieces of gear. Its great for layering in cold temperatures and is fine as an outer garment for cool days. It works because it is made of 8.8oz, 100% washable merino wool jersey knit. It also has a YKK zipper, internal storm flap and left chest packet. For those that like the Fonzie look there is also a three-inch stand up collar.

One feature that is particularly nice for layering or even when wearing as an outer garment are the thumb loops in the sleeves. Putting a jacket on over a layer of warmth only to have the sleeves rolled up inside the jacket is almost as annoying as loading 30 round AR magazines or trying to eat French fries with a spoon. The thumb loops will let you shove your arm in a sleeve and then, if you like, you can pull your thumbs from the loops.

IMG_3373I have two of them – both in black – because I found I was wearing the thing so many days in a row that it began to stink. Actually, I’m not so sure stink is what you would call it…more like a, manly aroma. I must admit that when I got close to Jorge Amselle on the range at Gunsite I detected the faint fragrance of lilac. I know this was not coming from the shirt which leaves me to wonder what type cologne Jorge uses.
