Hunting Bullets Explained

BB 35 Whelen BulletHERE is a good breakdown of the differences between different hunting bullets. Ron Spomer has a lot of experience shooting big game animals all over the world with a lot of different bullets which is why when I put together the book, Rifle Bullets for the Hunter I had Ron contribute his expertise. Too many hunters do not understand the differences in bullets and in turn make bad bullet decisions. I’ve done that too. Remember, your bullet is the only thing you take to the woods that actually touches the animal you are after. Well, except your knife. But if your bullet don’t work you won’t need your knife for anything excepting cutting up the cheese you’ll be eating with your wine and meatless meal.

I am a fan of 45/70 heavy cast 405 grain and lee 500 grain, would like to see a woodleigh type copper or gilded in that weight. The heavy barnes loads in .45 long colt and a 185 gr. .45 acp +p my pet overall hunting gun has and always will be the 30.06 in any 150-220 weight with a hold together mushrooming top solid bottom would be great for virtually all except kodiaks and polar but those would be defensive loads not offensive. For a short time tried making a 110gr hp load go fast in the ‘o6 but a wasre of $$ though 125 gr.showed some promise if I could afford to change barrel twist.
