For all my life I’ve struggled with finding a strap to securely and comfortably carry a rifle, and also serve as a shooting aid. I’ve tried almost everything sling the market. For shooting, the Galco Safari Ching Sling and the Rhodesian Sling from Andy’s Leather are probably the best. For carry, the Vero Vellini slings work very well.
Finally, I gave up and made my own by melding these two concepts together. I used this prototype sling for about a year, hunting and shooting all over the United States and in Africa. It worked but I realized it could be better. While at Gunsite Academy I showed it to Mike Barham of Galco Gunleather. Barham thought it might be something Galco would want to make and sale. He took my prototype and soon sent me a more refined version. When I tested and blessed it, Galco asked what I wanted for the design. I said free rifle slings…After all, that’s what it was all about; something to help me carry and shoot my rifles better.
Maybe I should have asked for a $ 1.00 every time they sold one!
This video shows how to install, adjust and use the new Galco RifleMann sling. (Galco originally wanted to call it the Mann Sling but my wife and I both thought this name more suited to a guy’s thong or jock strap. Fortunately for all involved, we convinced Galco to change their mind.)
