In this new age where you are considered behind the times if your smart phone is not capable of doing your taxes and satisfying your wife, us humans tend to forget that there was a smart guy somewhere who designed that smart phone. The companies who sell these magnificent marvels are the first to forget it seems; they try to come up with all sorts of cool names to get us to buy the latest thing but ignore the man who created the magic to start with. (We all know who Henry Ford was.)
Timney Triggers is an exception. Timney is owned and operated by a friend of mine by the name of John Vehr. I think a lot of John. Not because he owns a company that makes great triggers but because John is a good guy. John, has made Timney a great and successful company by being smart in the way he does business but also by understanding that people matter. (By the way, when John Vehr took over Timney he did not change the name to Vehr Triggers.)
The man at Timney who designs their triggers is Calvin Motley. Calvin is not the best shot I have ever met but he is one of the best engineers I’ve had the pleasure of being in the company of. If you have ever pulled a Timney trigger you can thank Calvin for the consistency and crispness you felt.
When Timney decided to offer an elite line of triggers, the absolute best trigger they could make, they needed to call them something special. Most companies would have come up with some catchy name that you would recognize right off as being the best of the best. But John Vehr and Timney took a different approach. They decided to give credit where credit is due and they are calling these triggers the “Calvin Elite Series” named after a man who works at Timney and who is arguably the best firearm’s trigger engineer in the world.
To me this is rather refreshing because people do matter and for all the firearms things you enjoy and trust you should remember that there was a man somewhere that made that possible. At least now, if you pull a Timney trigger, you know who to thank.
The new Timney Calvin Elite Series triggers are currently available for the Remington 700 and the Remington model 7. Prices start at $ 209.95 and you can order direct from Timney.
