We all also like to hit what we are shooting at. Sometimes saving money and hitting can be mutually exclusive. Sometimes not!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hornady.com\/store\/223-Rem-55-gr-HP-American-Gunner\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13293\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/empty-cases.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/AG.jpg?resize=874%2C333\" alt=\"AG\" width=\"874\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/empty-cases.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/AG.jpg?w=874&amp;ssl=1 874w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/empty-cases.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/AG.jpg?resize=300%2C114&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 874px) 100vw, 874px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I recently conducted a test including\u00a0four lightweight AR 15s for an article. I used the same three .223 Remington loads to test all four rifles. One of the loads tested retails for about $ 1.37 per shot and it averaged 1.58 inches for three, three shot groups. Another load retails for around $ 0.90 per shot and averaged 1.04 inches. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hornady.com\/store\/223-Rem-55-gr-HP-American-Gunner\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hornady\u2019s American Gunner<\/a> is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">on sale<\/span> right now at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.midwayusa.com\/product\/274883\/hornady-american-gunner-ammunition-223-remington-55-grain-hollow-point-box-of-50\" target=\"_blank\">Midway for $ 29.99 for 50 rounds<\/a> \u2013 that\u2019s $ 0.60 per shot. It averaged an impressive 1.18 inches, and that\u2019s from all four rifles.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, out of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mossberg.com\/product\/mmr-carbine-rifle-65074\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mossberg\u2019s new well configured MMR<\/a> the Hornady American Gunner load averaged 1.04 inches for three, three-shot groups. This of course does not prove the load will shoot this well from your AR 15 but the worst this load averaged from any rifle tested was 1.29 inches.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mossberg.com\/product\/mmr-carbine-rifle-65074\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-13292\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/empty-cases.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/65074-catalog.jpg?resize=835%2C272\" alt=\"65074-catalog\" width=\"835\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/empty-cases.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/65074-catalog.jpg?w=835&amp;ssl=1 835w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/empty-cases.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/65074-catalog.jpg?resize=300%2C98&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 835px) 100vw, 835px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hornady\u2019s .223 Remington American Gunner ammunition is loaded with Hornady\u2019s 52 grain Hollow Point bullet and has an advertised velocity of 3240 fps. At $ 0.60 per shot it might not be the most affordable ammo you can purchase \u2013 steel cased <a href=\"http:\/\/www.midwayusa.com\/product\/3083217598\/tulammo-ammunition-223-remington-55-grain-full-metal-jacket-bi-metal-steel-case\" target=\"_blank\">TulAmmo<\/a> sales for about half the price. However, based on a similar and recent test, Hornady\u2019s American Gunner load will deliver groups <em>about 30% smaller<\/em> than the TulAmmo is capable of.<\/p>\n<p>This might be a good time to stock up.
