Zero Stops and Custom Turrets

DD-21

Long range rifle shooting requires some special tools if you want to do it correctly. For starters you need an accurate rifle chambered for a reasonably flat shooting cartridge. You’ll also need a quality riflescope, preferably with a zero stop.

Most long-range riflescopes have ballistic turrets graduated in either 0.1 MIL or 0.25 MOA clicks. But, custom ballistic turrets are becoming more popular. With a custom ballistic turret you provide a manufacturer like Sig Sauer Optics the ballistic data for your cartridge when fired in your rifle and they create the turret for you. It will have indicators for different distances but it will also still have either 0.1 MIL or 0.25 MOA clicks.

This way you can just dial to the distance you are shooting, pull the trigger, and get the hit. If you have a riflescope like the Sig Sauer Tango 6, outfitted with a zero stop, after the engagement you just twist the dial back to the left and it will automatically stop on zero. Now, you’ll be read to shoot at your zero range or dial in the distance for the next engagement.
